And the mouse cursor shivers on the screen
almost resisting the move, almost recoiling from the greed
of its controller,
controlling a laptop it shouldn’t be.
And then the cursor is released
back to the safety of its owner
who didn’t catch the move.
But it can feel its captive freedom.
It’s caged!
The laptop has been hacked.
The tell-tale sign,
In just one second.
Day 4: Seconds
and way more than a second’s grief that captivated second caused! I worked for a company whose T1 line was hacked. It was not pretty.

Oh, that’s terrible! I’m curious to know what happened?

this was waaaaaaaaaay back in 2004 or 2005. The hacker hijacked our T1 line so we had no internet or phone service (we had voip; it was a nonprofit and they were trying to save money.) They had no IT dept. So they had to find and hire someone to sort out the problem. We had no internet access for 3 weeks, which is how long it took to get someone in to kick the hacker out; he had root access. So it took a while to straighten things out. The company had almost no security which is why the hacker hit us. There was evidence of the hacker using our line for awhile before he took total control of it. They learned their lesson and I moved to another firm.

Wow, just shows how much technology has improved!

Yes it does 🙂 It was still the wild west in the web world then. Glad I was able to ride that wave. 🙂

Yes, that is pretty cool. But the more we improve technology, the more private information it contains, so the more deadlier the information when it comes to hackers!

Yes, that is true though we have far better tools to combat that then we did 10 years ago and companies take internet security much more seriously now then they did. My current company takes it very seriously. Nowadays, you can’t run a company without an IT dept but back in ’05 you could outsource it.

Yes that is true, I agree.

omg well that just freaked me out completely! poetic success!!!
I was scrolling down to read the next line and then my heart thumped because I thought my cursor was moving by itself !! I think you’ve invented a new genre here using computers, poetry and thrills !!

Hahaha, thank you!
Yes, I did get the idea from a hacker drama I watched before – it does make you more conscious when you realise it can happen to anyone.
I always have my webcam with a sticker over it, since my mum warned us before 😆

This made me think of a show “Phantom”. Your mind works in extremely creative ways!

The cyber crime show in 2012? Well that’s where I got the idea from – unfortunately I’m not that creative!

Oh riiight, yes I’m pretty bad at slang – urban dictionary normally helps me when I realise it is slang! And thank you 😀

I believe it’s British (or, should I say, UK) slang.

I am British, hahaha 😂 In my defence, I’ve never heard it being used before

And I’m not, haha! A fan of Red Dwarf, that crazy sci-fi comedy from the 90s. I believe I first heard “handle” being used there. Read it a few times since.

Oh, I forgot about that – I privatised it a while ago while I was fixing the pages. Thanks for reminding me… I’ll tell you when it appears 🙂
