Swimming in lava

“You could swim in lava if it weren’t so hot.”
the little boy states matter-of-factly.

“That’s not true of course,” I think.
“Because it’s not just the heat that stops you from swimming.
But how can you swim against high viscosity that
Bandages stationary even an athlete’s limbs.
And if your muscles are rich, instead of the lava’s silica,
You won’t be swimming, but tumbling
Downwards with the current instead.
And how can you survive the unpredictability –
You may be fired out through a lava fountain,
Or destroyed by pyroclastic flows!”

Oh, the way we block ourselves with our obstacle minds,
while the ambitious swim towards their dreams.
